Morphology and Anatomy:

.

Female

  • Didelphic-amphidelphic, with both branches almost equally developed, anterior 10-15%, posterior ofr 11-15% of total body length.
  • Ovaries reflexed, oocytes arranged initially in two or more rows, then in a single row.
  • Oviduct-uterus junction with well-developed sphincter. U
  • Vagina extending inwards for ca 45-53% of body diam., pars proximalis 15-21 × 10-14 um, with somewhat convex walls surrounded by weak musculature, pars refringens consisting of two trapezoidal pieces with angular edges, with a combined width of 14-18 um, and pars distalis 2-3 um long.
  • Vulva a short longitudinal slit.
  • Prerectum 1.1-2.1, rectum 0.7-1.1 anal body diam. long.
  • Tail short, convex conoid to rounded, with two pairs of caudal pores.

Males:

  • Diorchic, with opposed testes and spindle-shaped sperm cells.
  • Adcoacal pair and a series of 9-10 irregularly spaced, ventromedian supplements beginning within range of spicules.
  • Spicules dorylaimoid, relatively robust, 5-6 times as long as wide and 1.2-1.3 times as long as cloacal body diam. Lateral guiding pieces distinct, rod-like.
  • Without bursa.
  • Tail short, similar to that of female, but ventral side becoming less convex, nearly straight or even visibly curved ventrad.

Distribution:

The type. and as of 2021, only species of the genus, Neometadorylaimus coomansi, was originally described from soil around the roots of groundnut in Maharashtra State, India. Other populations have been found in Gujarat Stae and West Bengal, India (Islam, et al. 2020).
