Morphology and Anatomy:

General characteristics of type species of the genus:

• Body elongate, tapering to both extremities.
• Cuticle with fine striation; very narrow lateral alae extending from level of nerve ring to tail.
• Mouth small, surrounded by three undeveloped lips; dorsal lip with two large cephalic papillae, subventral lips with a large cephalic papilla and amphid
•  Pharynx short; esophageal bulb with valve-like structure. Bulb present or not depending on species
•  Nerve ring anterior to middle of esophagus; excretory pore anterior to esophageal bulb.

Phylogenetic analysis indicates polyphyly of the genus and suggests that the systematics of Kathlaniidae require significant review.

Type species described from intestine of Japanese Giant Salamander (Andrias japonicus). Other species described from salamanders, frogs and skinks
