Morphology and Anatomy:

The genus Lucionema is characterized mainly by:

• the presence of 8 cephalic papillae in two circlets
• absence of spicules in the male
• presence of the copulatory plate,
• only 2 pairs of postcloacal papillae in the male
• by the distal part of the monodelphic uterus forming a posteriorly directed coil.
• The body length of L. balatonense females is 1074-1782 microns, that of the only available male 770 microns.

Male:

• lacking spicules
• two pairs of postcloacal papillae
• male body length around 770 um.

Female:

• Monodelphic; distal part of uterus forming a posteriorly directed coil.
• The body length of L. balatonense females is 1074-1782 um.

Distribution:

Genus described for a single species, Lucionema balatonense, a parasite of the swimbladder of the European pikeperch, Stizostedion lucioperca, from Lake Balaton in Hungary (Moravec et al., 1998).
