As of 2014, the genus Dorcopsinema was known only from Papua New Guinea, Papua Indonesia and associated islands (Mawson, 1977; Purwaningsih and Smales, 2014).
Two of the six known species of Dorcopsinema occur in species of Dendrolagus (tree kangaroo), one in Dorcopsulus vanheurni (forest wallaby), one in Dorcopsis luctuosa (gray forest wallaby) and three, in D. muelleri (brown forest wallaby) (Purwaningsih and Smales, 2018).

Species of the genus Dorcopsinema have most commonly been identified iin the stomachs of the brown forest wallaby, Dorcopsis muelleri.
