Morphology and Anatomy:

Species of Paralabiostrongylus are characterized by:

• Cephalic extremity with poorly-defined fleshy collar bearing 4 cephalic papillae.
• Mouth opening surrounded by 2 fleshy lips, lobed, bearing amphids, and 4 lip-like, lobed flaps.
• Buccal capsule shallow, cylindrical, sclerotized;
• Esophagus long, slender, clavate; intestinal diverticula surround esophago-intestinal junction. Nerve-ring surrounds oesophagus at no more than 1/5 of its length; excretory pore and deirids in close proximity.

Males:

• Bursal lobes not well defined; ventral lobes fused ventrally. Ventral rays apposed; externolateral ray arises with other lateral rays; mediolateral and posterolateral apposed; externodorsal ray divergent from laterals; dorsal trunk stout, divides into 2 major branches; 2 shorter lateral branches arise before bifurcation.
• Spicules elongate, alate.
• Gubernaculum present.

Females:

• Tail conical.
• Vulva immediately anterior to anus; vagina vera short, thick-walled,
• Ovejector longitudinally disposed, J-shaped.
• Eggs thin-shelled, ellipsoid.
