Morphology and Anatomy:

.

Females:

  • Mmouth opening surrounded by a circumoral cuticle plate, eight labial sensilla situated as two subdorsal, two subventral and four sublateral in position present.
  • Amphids slit-like
  • Buccal cavity with one dorsal and two subventral cuticular projections.
  • Pharynx with well-defined clavate corpus, an indistinct isthmus and rounded basal bulb. 
  • Excretory pore situated posterior to basal bulb.
  • Didelphic, amphifelphic; vulva at mid-body.
  •  Eggs thin-shelled, with longitudinal ridges.
  • Tail conical or attenuated.

Males:

  • In males, oral opening triangular and pharyngeal corpus cylindrical. Intestine straight, narrowing posteriorly.Single spicule.
  • Gubernaculum absent.
  • Four pairs of genital papillae arranged as one precloacal and three postcloacal pairs, of which one pair is lateral in position.
  • Lateral alae absent.
  • Tail of male conical with narrow terminal tip.

Distribution:

Severanoia spp have been described from the intestine of various cockroach species in the families Blattidae and Blaberidae (Hexapoda: Insecta: Blattoidea) and from millipedes of the Julidae, Glomeridae and Paradoxosomatidae (Myriapoda: Diplopoda).  As an example, Severianoia pachyiuli was described from the posterior gut of Pachyiulus krivolutskyi Golovatch, 1977 (Myriapoda: Diplopoda: Julidae) collected near the Gruzinka River in the vicinity of Nickel village, Republic of Adygea, Russian Federation (Malysheva et al., 2021).
