• A family of nematodes that are parasites of  vertebrates and invertebrates; include the pinworms, Enterobius.
• Oxyurids are monoxenous with a single host species in the life cycle.
• Their development and mode of transmission is very similar in vertebrates and invertebrates
• Eggs are either deposited in feces, or via females migrating to the anus of the host and laying eggs on the host perianal area. Infective third-stage juveniles (J3) hatch directly from eggs following ingestion by the new host where they remain in the posterior gut for the entire life cycle (Adamson, 1994; Anderson, 2000).
