Three subfamilies:
- Halocercinae - paraites of lungs of dolphins
- Pseudaliinae - parasites of vascular system and heart of porpoises.
- Stenurinae - parasites of lungs and circulatory system of dolphins,
porpoises

Buccal capsule vestigial; mouth without lips

bursa reduced, rays usually fused;
- vulva
in posterior region of body, usually with sphincter;

monodelphic;

ovoviviparous.
