NEMATOLOGY 100
Laboratory Exercise 2
Rev. 01/01/2020
Purpose: Nematode Anatomy and Morphology: Form and Function:
1. Powerpoint presentation and slides of anatomical and morphological features.
2. Movie of mating behavior and copulation in the nematode Pelodera.
3. Live specimens are provided from soil around the following plants and locations.
a) Draw the stoma and stoma armamentation for:
a tylenchid nematode (Order Rhabditida, Suborder Tylenchina)
a dorylaimid nematode (Order Dorylaimida)
a mononchid nematode (Order Mononchida)
a rhabditid or a cephalobid nematode (Order Rhabditida).
Consider the feeding behavior of these forms.
b) Draw the female reproductive tract; indicate whether nematode is monovarial or diovarial and the arrangement of uteri is prodelphic, opisthodelphic, amphidelphic.
c) Draw representative male reproductive structures, including spicules and gubernaculum, caudal alae.
4. Guided tour of nematode anatomy - the multi-headed microscope.
5. Homework Assignment:
Physiology calculation exercise.
