Demonstrated to feed and reproduce on fungal hosts. Saprophytic fungi are better hosts than parasitic fungi (Okada et al., 2004).
Sawahata et al. (2012) reported non-lethal feeding of F. discrepans on cells of Botrytis cinerea. Cytoplasmic streaming continueed in cells from which F. discrepans was withdrawing cell contents and continued after feeding ceased. Although hyphal tip cells usually stopped growing during feeding, the majority continued even after 3 hours of feeding..
