Type species of the genus: Scutylenchus mamiillatus (Tobar Jimenez, 1966) Jairajpuri, 1971

The genus has been considered by some authorities to be a synonym of Geocenamus (e.g. Geraert, 2011).

Morphology and Anatomy:

• All known species have 6 lines in the lateral field, except for S. quercinus which has four.**
• Cuticle well striated  and with longitudinal lines that create a tessellated appearance.
• Laboal region offset, annulated and with 6 longitudinal grooves
• Median bulb oval, terminal bulb pyriform
• Phasmid somewhat enlarged, resembling a scutellum; hence the genus name

Xu et al (2012) reported 4 lines in the lateral field of S. nyungsugae but that is in conflict with the 6 lines reported in the orioginal description of that species by Choi and Geraert (1993).

• Female tail conoid-subcylindrical
