Type species: Paratrophurus loofi Arias, 1970
   

Synonyms:

Histotylenchus (Siddiqi, 1971)
Telotylenchoides (Siddiqi, 1971)
   

Paratrophurus is close to Tylenchorhynchus but differs mainly in the abnormally thickened terminal cuticle of the tail. Both genera have similar face view (SEM) with labial disc and labial sectors fused into a quadrangular strucutre. In Paratrophurus the basal bulb of the esophagus is offset from the esophago-intestinal axis, tha spicules are flanged and the gubernaculum is protrusible (Castillo et al., 1989).

Morphology and Anatomy:

  • Cephalic region narrow, smooth
  • Stylet of medium lemgth
  • Cuticle distinctly striated
  • Lateral field with 4 incisures
  • Postcorpus of esophagus slightly offset with a short lobe.
  • Intestine with caudal sac extending into tail

Female:

  • Didelphic, amphidelphic; ovaries outstretched
  • Female tail cylindroid, rounded to slightly clavate with thick hyaline portion

Male

  • Spicules flanged distally; gubernaculum large and protrusible.
  • Bursa enveloping tail
