Classification:

Refer to the subfamily Sectonematinae for a discussion of the placement of the Sectonematinae subfamily in the Aporcelaimidae rather than the Nygolaimidae.

Morphology and Anatomy:

• Large Nematodes 3.5-5 mm.
• Thick cuticle with criss-cross markings
• Lip region strongly offset.
• Mural tooth on ventral wall of stoma.
• Stoma without rasp-like region of denticles.
• Esophagus without disc-like cardia
• Tail conoid-rounded

Scapidens strongly resembles Nygolaimium but is distinguished by the lack of a denticle region of the stoma and lack of a cardia disk (Andrassy, 2009).
