The taxonomy of pseudaliids is mostly based on differences in the morphology of the male bursa,Species of the subfamily Halocercinae haveng greatly reduced bursae with fused ventral rays which are more prominent than their lateral rays.
More recent analyses with a wider range of species, suggest that the bursal morphology can be quite variable in terms of being lobed or smooth within species (Pool et al., 2020).
