Guyanema Petter, 1975

A genus of parasites of freshwater fish. mainly in South America.  Very few known species, some described from only a single male specimen.

Morphology and Anatomy:

The genus Guyanema is distinguished from Pseudodelphis, the other genus in the family Guyanemidae, by the presence of caudal alae and the arrangement of caudal papillae in the male. Females of Guyanema differ from those of Pseudodelphis by the absence of a uterine diverticulum and a more posetrior vulva.
