Morphology and Anatomy:

According to Moravec (2024), the shape of deirids is an important taxonomic feature in Ascarophis spp. Unforttunately, the deirids are generally very small and it is  impossible to observe their shape under the light microscope. Based on SEM studiess, bifurcated deirids have been reported in 11 Ascarophis species; in contrast, non-bifurcated deirids were found in other species.
