Type genus of the family: Macroposthia de Man, 1889
A family of free-living marine nematodes.
Characteristics of the family:
Thick coarsely annulated cuticle; annules slightly overlapping to anterior in anterior half of body, overlapping to posterior in posterior half. Longitudinal rows of cuticular notches and ridges.
Anterior sensilla in 6+6+4 asrrangement, labial circles papilliform; cephalic circle setiform.
Amphidial fovea circular
Buccal cavity with dorsl tooth and two subventrals.
Females monodelphic or didelphic.
Males dirochic, testes opposed
Copulatory apparatus a protrusible gubernaculum; spicules weakly developed.
