Morphology and Anatomy:

Cameron (1925) distinguished Graphidioides from Graphidium (Haemonchidae) on the basis  of an  absence of cervical papillae, shape of bursa and disposition of ventro-ventral rays, shape of accessory piece and spicules, shape of the ovejectors and vagina and posterior extremity of the female. such is the progress of taxonomy and systematics that currently Graphidioides is in a different family from Graphidium and would be considered closer to Graphinema!

Species of Graphidioides are defined by the synlophe pattern (longitudinal ridges) on the cuticle.

Hosts:

Six out of eight species of Graphidioides are parasites of Caviomorpha families, a diverse order histriocognath rodetss, i.e. the Caviidae, Chinchillidae, Octodontidae and Myocastoridae. The distribution of these trichostrongyloid nematodes is closely related to the distribution of their host families, primariky in South America (Kruger, 2006; Sutton and Durette-Desset, 1995; Panayotova-Pencheva et al., 2024)

Life Cycle:

Probably direct through feeding on plant material contaminated with host feces containing neggs and larvae.

In a study of determinants of the reproductive output of G. subterraneus, parasitic in the herbivorous subterranean rodent Ctenomys talarum, Rossin et al (2005) determined that:

They concluded that resource supply to individual worms is not limited by host size or by the number of conspecific parasites vying for the same resources. Rather, resource availability does not appear to constrain reproduction in G. subterraneus and that the host provides a stable and predictable environment.
