Type species of the genus is Mitoaxonchium basalticum Yeates, 1973

Morphology and Anatomy:

Note: Yeates (1973) originall described a thin spiral sheath over the cylicdrus of the esophagus and considered the genus to be in the family Belondiridae.  Siddiqi (1982), after studying specimens, decided that the "spiral sheath" was an artefact and  transferred the genus to the family Swangeridae.

Distribution:

Type species  Mitoaxonchium basalticum described from New Hebrides (Vanauatu) archipelago in the South Pacific (Yeates, 1972).  Also reported from Costa Rca
