Morphology and Anatomy:

The genus Pseudodelphis differs from Guyanema, another genus in the family, by the absence of caudal alae and the arrangement of caudal papillae in the male.  Females of Pseudodelphis differ from Guyanema in the presence of a blind uterine diverticulum, without associated oviduct and ovary, which extends anteriorly from the junction of the posterior uterus and vagina, and in having a more posteriorly positioned vulva. (Adamson and Roth, 1990)..

  • Buccal capsule reduced to peribuccal ring; stoma opens directly into esophagus.
  • Esophagus long with distinct muscular and glandular portions.
  • Fourteen cephalic papillae arranged in 2 circlets; the inner circle with 3 pairs of small papillae (2 pairs located ventrolaterally and dorsoventrally, 1 pair anterior to amphids) and the outer circle with 4 duplets of larger papillae located dorsally and ventrally on each side

Females:

  • Vulva located close to the end of the glandular esophagus
  • Didelphic; anterior uterus ending blindly without associated oviduct and ovary.
