Morphology and Anatomy:

.

Female:  

  • Rectum short, anus functional.
  • Monodelphic, vulva near mid-body.
  • Uterus prodelphic, running to level of end of esophagus then reflexed to a level posterior to vulva.
  • Ssingle ovary extending posteriorly from level of posterior part of intestine to mid-tail region.
  • Eggs develop to juveniles in uterus
  • Viviparous

Males:  

  • Two pairs of subventral postcloacal papillae
  • Unpaired, sclerotized copulatory plate which apparently substitutes the  function of spicules.
  • No spicules

Distribution:

The genus Lucionema was described for a single species, Lucionema balatonense, a parasite of the swimbladder of the European pikeperch, Stizostedion lucioperca, from Lake Balaton in Hungary (Moravec et al., 1998).

Biology and Ecology:

 Apparently sensitive to osmotic pressures.  Has escaped notice due to small size and being embedded in wall of swimbladder (Moravec et al., 1998).
